Internal Newsletter & Career Site Blogs
Publication with purpose to nurture long-term relationships with employees, potential internal career moves and encourage future engagement when opportunities aligned.
Newsletter redesign
Synchrony wanted a design that was fresh and brought an innovative layout to their Talent Community Newsletter (TCN) as they moved from outlook templates to Smashfly.
They were also transitioning from a singular publication for both CC and Exempt employees.
A curated version for each audience- with varying storylines, topics, and graphics.
With this new layout there was a focus on content stewardship; linking out more to business articles, blogs on Synchrony's career website, and employee resources, rather than a copy heavy newsletter.
Our team came up with multiple layouts-and in the end mine was chosen for the design revamp- sample pictured on the left.

The Process
Illustrating for storytelling
Synchrony saw an up-tick in views and engagement on blogs as we moved from using solely photography, to pairing it with illustrations. We imbued the TCN and career site blogs with the illustration style, creating a greater interaction between the viewer and the story.
Sometimes we achieved this through illustration alone, other times we moved to integrating GIFs, animations, flip cards and more.
My role was to take a copy document, create and source photo imagery, design illustrations, and build-out the publications in Smashfly.

Photography styling & editing
Employer brand can be best summarized by the account of the employees that work there. Synchrony has a heavy focus on the characterization of the 'real employee'. The TCN copy always aligned. So whether using assets from on-site shoots or stock photography, staying authentic to this focus was key to the publications visual success.
Synchrony appreciated the sort of collage cut-out layering in their publications. Allowing for playful headers and dynamic thumbnails, while staying true to capturing the culture and experience of working at Synchrony.
As of 2026, Synchrony has started an entire brand design overhaul- but even in this they still adhere to visual storytelling that feels authentic to life.
